BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – The drivers of two vehicles were killed after a crash in Brevard County on Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the deadly crash happened around 4:18 p.m. near the intersection of US-1 and Jefferson Street.

According to a crash report, the 89-year-old driver of a Chevrolet HHR and his passenger, an 82-year-old woman, was stopped westbound on Jefferson Street at US-1.

A second vehicle, a Pontiac Grand Prix being driven by a 78-year-old woman from Mims, was traveling northbound on US-1, approaching Jefferson Street in the outside lane.

The driver of the HHR failed to yield from the stop sign while making a left turn to attempt to travel south on US-1, according to the FHP.

As a result, the front of the Grand Prix crashed into the left, front side of the HHR, troopers said.

The driver of the HHR was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Grand Prix was taken to a separate hospital where she was pronounced dead. The passenger in the HHR was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.

All lanes of US-1 are currently closed while the crash remains under investigation.
