Melbourne — A young woman was allegedly stabbed at a shopping centre in south-east Melbourne on Thursday morning, prompting a swift police response and the arrest of a teenage suspect.
The incident occurred at M-City Shopping Centre on Blackburn Road in Clayton at around 7:50 a.m. on Thursday, as the 25-year-old woman was reportedly walking to work.
Authorities allege that the woman was attacked by a 16-year-old boy, who fled the scene immediately after the incident. A passer-by quickly stepped in to assist the injured woman until emergency services arrived.
Police later apprehended the teenager at a nearby medical centre. He is currently in custody as investigations continue.
The victim was treated by paramedics at the scene before being transported to hospital. Her condition has not yet been officially disclosed.
Police are continuing inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
