Pedestrian in critical condition after being hit by bus in Glengormley

A man is in critical condition in hospital after a collision in Co Antrim on Wednesday. Police are appealing for witnesses in relation to the incident involving a bus and the pedestrian which occurred in Glengormley in the afternoon of April 2.

The man, in his 40s, was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital with serious injuries where he remains stable this morning.

The PSNI have said one person was cautioned at the scene in relation to the incident.

Inspector Patton said: “Officers received and responded to a report of a collision at the junction of Antrim Road and Ballyclare Road at around 4.30pm.

“Colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service also attended the scene, and a male pedestrian aged in his 40s was taken to hospital for treatment for serious injuries. He remains in a stable but critical condition at this time.

“One man was cautioned at the scene in relation to the incident. The Ballyclare Road, which had been closed for a period of time yesterday, with diversions in place, fully reopened again to road users yesterday evening.

“Our enquiries to establish the circumstances of the incident are continuing this morning, Thursday 3rd April, and we would appeal to any witnesses, or anyone who captured any dash cam or mobile phone footage, to contact us.

“The number to call is 101, quoting reference number 1174 of 02/04/25.

A spokesperson for the NIAS said: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 16:28 on Wednesday 2 nd April following reports of an RTC on the Ballyclare Road, Glengormley

"NIAS despatched two Emergency Ambulance crews, two Rapid Response Paramedics and an Ambulance Officer to the incident. The Charity Air Ambulance with HEMS on board was also tasked to attend.

"One patient was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital by ambulance."

In a statement on Wednesday, Translink said: "We can confirm a Metro bus was involved in a road traffic incident near Ballyclare Road in Newtownabbey at around 4.30pm today.

“Emergency services and the PSNI attended the scene.

“Translink is assisting the PSNI with their investigation.”
