CAREY — A man is dead and a girl is hurt after a rollover crash in Blaine County on Monday.
Deputies got a call about the crash around 5:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office said in a news release. It occurred on U.S. Highway 26/93 at milepost 198, south of Carey.
A blue 2000 Dodge RAM 1500 truck was traveling westbound on the highway and failed to negotiate a curve. It left the road on the right shoulder, slid and hit the guardrail, which caused it to roll several times before coming to rest on the passenger side.
Neither the 33-year-old Richfield man driving the truck nor the “juvenile female” passenger was wearing a seatbelt, deputies said. Both were ejected from the vehicle.
When law enforcement arrived, they found a small fire starting under the truck. They dragged the man from the crash. He died at the scene.
The girl, whose age was not given, was transported from the scene by ground ambulance to the Picabo airport, where she was taken by air ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello.
The truck was towed away.
Further details were not available Wednesday.
