"Folks we have had a rough few days here since Wednesday," a DC Police spokesperson said.
WASHINGTON — A man has died after being fatally shot by police in Northwest D.C. Saturday afternoon, according to his family.
Through an initial investigation, it was determined that two vehicles were headed northbound on Georgia Avenue NW when they opened fire on a group of people who were walking on Longfellow Street NW. The individuals then returned fire, according to police.
Officers received a call about the incident around 4 p.m.
As they were investigating the area, citizens called in a vehicle that was brandishing multiple guns.
Police say they were able to locate one of the vehicles directly involved in the incident and followed them to Madison Street.
According to the police department, the officer exited the vehicle and engaged with the armed man but they did not comply.
The man was transported to the hospital in critical condition, police revealed in a press conference.
The victim's sister said her 31-year-old brother Kevin, a D.C. resident, due to the injuries sustained in the shooting.

The shooting that officers initially responded to left two people with minor injuries, police said. There identifies have not been released.
No police officers were injured during the incidents.
Police say they are looking for two vehicles, a black and a green sedan, involved in the shootings.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
