This article contains spoilers from tonight's episode, now available on ITV X.

In a surprising turn of events, Thursday's episode of Emmerdale seemed to bid farewell to one character.

Ella Forster arrived in the village last year and quickly kindled a romance with Liam Cavanagh. However, her dark past soon came to light when it was revealed she had killed her best friend, Joanne, during their childhood.

This shocking revelation led to the breakdown of her relationship with Liam, but they found their way back to each other when Ella discovered she was pregnant. Tragically, Ella suffered a silent miscarriage, leading to another split after Liam harshly accused her of fabricating the pregnancy.

Recently, Liam embarked on a new relationship with Chas Dingle, following his romantic entanglement with both women. Earlier this month, Ella unwittingly crashed their engagement party at the pub, and when Chas collapsed due to drink spiking, all fingers pointed at Ella, despite her vehement denials, reports Leeds Live.

Tensions escalated in the village earlier this week as Ella bombarded Chas and Liam with messages and phone calls, causing growing concern.

The situation took a more sinister turn when Belle Dingle received an email cancelling Liam and Chas' wedding, suggesting that Ella's harassment campaign was escalating.

In a frantic turn of events, Liam alerted the authorities, and matters escalated when one of the pub's windows was shattered. Liam and Chas were convinced that Ella was the culprit, oblivious to the fact that a bewildered Ella was observing their every move...

On Thursday, Ella made an unexpected appearance at her best friend Mandy Dingle's house, insisting on speaking with Liam. When Mandy declined, Ella held Mandy captive, compelling Liam to intervene.

A distraught Ella tried to persuade Liam that she was being set up, and he attempted to coax a confession out of her by feigning reconciliation. Upon realising Liam's trickery, Ella once again reached for the knife in a tense showdown.

It wasn't long before Chas and Mandy arrived, prompting Ella to flee with Liam hot on her heels. A confrontation ensued in the woods, during which Ella shoved Liam, causing him to fall and strike his head.

Thinking she might have killed him, a distressed Ella wept over his motionless body, but thankfully, Liam regained consciousness.

The village doctor urged Ella to seek help, stating she can't keep running away. During their heartfelt conversation, Ella confessed she 'can't keep doing this' and she's 'so tired of running'.

As the villager was apprehended by the police, she dropped a bombshell about Chas' spiking, adamantly declaring: "I know I've hurt you and Chas but I never drugged her, I swear, please believe me!"

The dramatic instalment closed with Ella taken away to a cell, while Chas and Liam shared a moment of relief and joy regarding Ella's apprehension.

Yet, the expression on Liam's face spoke volumes, leaving viewers to ponder whether he might harbour doubts about Ella's guilt in spiking Chas and believes that she is innocent.

Earlier this year, actress Paula Lane had fuelled speculation about her departure from Emmerdale when her Spotlight CV seemed to indicate that her time on the show would conclude in February 2025.

Her profile previously stated: "Currently appearing as series regular Ella in Emmerdale ITV filming until February 2025."

In recent developments, Paula's next gig has been revealed – she's set to enchant audiences at Forum Theatre Billingham by taking on the role of Tinker-Bell in the beloved production of Peter Pan.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
