(NewsNation) — The FBI warned the public this week: Don’t shoot guns or point lasers at mysterious drones in the sky.

According to the FBI, pilots of manned aircraft are increasingly getting blinded by lasers as people on the ground mistakenly believe they are targeting drones. The FBI is also concerned that people might shoot at aircraft, confusing them with drones.

“Not only is this act against the law, but it poses an incredible danger to the pilots and passengers on those aircraft,” said Nelson Delgado, the acting special agent in charge of the FBI’s field office in Newark.

The warning follows numerous reports of mysterious drones flying over New Jersey and throughout the Northeast.

President Biden on Tuesday said that there is no apparent danger from the drones being spotted in the Northeast, noting that officials are looking into them.

“Nothing nefarious apparently, but they’re checking it all out,” Biden told reporters about the drones.

He added, “We’re following this closely, but so far, no sense of danger.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
