Coronation Street viewers are speculating about the comeback of a supposedly deceased character, convinced that they're still alive.
Mason Radcliffe, played by Luca Toolan, first appeared on the scene in 2023 as a school bully. After tormenting Maria Connor's (Samia Longchambon) young son, Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall), Mason was sent to a Young Offenders centre.
Upon his release, he returned to Weatherfield, determined to change his ways and distance himself from his violent family, including brothers Logan (Harry Lowbridge) and Matty (Seamus McGoff).
He found a home with Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor) and Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) and secured a job as a chef at Speed Dahl. Additionally, Mason began a relationship with Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin), the daughter of DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).
However, in January, after Mason's brothers tracked him down for reporting them for the murder of Betsy's mother Becky, he realised he needed to leave Weatherfield for his own safety, reports Leicestershire Live.
Tragedy struck when Matty and Logan located Mason and stabbed him with Dylan Wilson's (Liam McCheyne) zombie knife.
Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) found him bleeding from a stab wound in the children's play area and tried desperately to save him. As the ambulance arrived, Mason was rushed to hospital. However, it was soon revealed that Mason had tragically died.
The Weatherfield community has been left reeling in the aftermath, with Mason's girlfriend Betsy receiving support from her mother Lisa and new flame, Carla Connor (portrayed by Alison King).
Speculation amongst fans that Mason may not have perished has been swirling, bolstered by a theory suggesting his continued existence might be due to a jaw-dropping witness protection scheme.
On Reddit, speculation reached fever pitch when one user posited: "So basically with everything Betsy has gone through this year, she could have a mental breakdown and dig up Mason's grave only to find there isn't a body there."
They elaborated on the plot twist: "At the end of the episode it would cut to Lisa entering a witness protection building and informing him that Betsy knows. Mason would leave witness protection to return to the street to move back in with Tim and Sally."
Other devotees of the show shared their intrigue, with replies such as: "I'd love it if he were in WP." Another curious fan pondered on a different platform, "Who thinks Mason isn't dead, but has gone into witness protection?"
