The actor who portrayed Sarah Platt's first boyfriend on Coronation Street is barely recognisable two decades after his time on the soap.

Sarah (played by Tina O'Brien) has been a staple on the cobbles since her debut in 1999, evolving into one of the soap's most cherished and iconic characters.

Over the years, she's been at the heart of numerous dramatic storylines. From her shocking teenage pregnancy to various feuds on the cobbles, Sarah's journey in Weatherfield has been anything but dull.

It's also safe to say that Sarah's romantic life has been tumultuous, filled with scandalous affairs and liaisons with bad boys. Her latest relationship was with Damon Hay (portrayed by Ciarán Griffiths), who is currently incarcerated.

Back in the 2000s, Sarah found herself in her first serious relationship - but the actor who played her beau is now unrecognisable, having left acting for an entirely new career path, reports Leicestershire Live.

Actor Will Haigh made his Corrie debut in 2000 as Glen Middleham. During his time on the show, he famously dated Sarah Platt, following the birth of her daughter Bethany in June 2000 when she was just 13.

He ended up quitting acting

After his time on Coronation Street, Will took up roles in shows such as Holby City and The Peter Kay Thing. However, at the age of 17, he decided to leave acting behind and embarked on a new career path as a mine warfare specialist in the Royal Navy.

During his tenure in the military, Will served two years with the Marines in locations including Africa and Saudi Arabia. He later transitioned to the photographic branch, where he has since received numerous accolades for his work.

These days, the former soap actor is almost unrecognisable, sporting a sleek brunette hairstyle. Will has traded in his silver chain and jerseys for more sophisticated shirts.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
