EastEnders enthusiasts have been left worried after Jay Brown, portrayed by Jamie Borthwick, was noticeably absent from Martin Fowler's funeral.
This week, the BBC soap is saying goodbye to the legendary character Martin (James Bye), who tragically died of a cardiac arrest after being crushed by a metal beam in The Queen Vic.
On Monday (April 7), Martin took his final journey down Bridge Street, with his coffin carried by his closest loved ones, before his funeral service and burial. The Square's residents lined the streets to bid a final farewell to the popular fruit and veg seller.
However, sharp-eyed fans quickly noticed Jay's absence from the procession, despite him running the local funeral directors, which left them feeling let down.
Jay was also missing during Phil Mitchell's (Steve McFadden) stint in the mental health unit following a devastating suicide attempt, reports Plymouth Live.
When Jay's stepdaughter Lexi Pearce (Isabella Brown) started asking about her grandfather's whereabouts, Callum Highway (Tony Clay) had to handle the situation due to Jay's absence.
Jamie Borthwick's absence from the BBC soap is attributed to his participation in the Strictly Come Dancing nationwide arena tour.
The 30-year-old actor competed in last year's BBC ballroom show series, finishing in seventh place with professional dance partner Michelle Tsiakkas.
The pair were one of seven couples to take the show on tour in January, with the Strictly Tour concluding in February.
On social media, fans have been scratching their heads over Jay's noticeable absence from the funeral, with one X user posting: "It's so sad, but I was thinking, where Jay is? ? Like, literally, where is he? #EastEnders."
Another fan pondered: "Where was Jay? Isn't he the undertaker??? #eastenders."
A similar concern was raised by a third viewer, who pointed out: "Where was Jay - Albert Square's own undertaker - at Martin Fowler's funeral? #EastEnders.
"Where's the Mitchell's? I would have thought Billy, Jay and Callum would have been there at least! #EastEnders", wondered another fan. Yet another asked: "#EastEnders why wasn't Jay leading the funeral?".
EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC and iPlayer
