Shooting happened at Hawkins Park, deputies say

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 17-year-old was shot in the leg while sitting on a park bench on Monday afternoon, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the teen was sitting on a bench at Hawkins Park in Deltona when he was “injured by a gunshot to his leg” around 3:20 p.m.

According to a news release, a responding deputy applied a tourniquet and provided first aid until Deltona Fire Rescue arrived.

The teen was taken to a local hospital for treatment, deputies said.

Around 3:20 this afternoon, a 17-year-old sitting on a bench at Dwight Hawkins Park in City of Deltona, Florida was injured by a gunshot to his leg. A responding deputy immediately applied a tourniquet and provided first aid until Deltona Fire Rescue arrived on scene.

According to the release, the circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation.
