President Maithripala Sirisena last week said that there were no secret detention centers in the country. He made this statement when he met with relatives of missing persons at the Presidential Secretariat on November 16.

He had said that he clearly understood the issues faced by each community in this country, and assured that the government was committed to provide solutions to those issues in a transparent and fair manner. President Sirisena emphasized that his aim was to provide swift solutions for the issues faced by the family members of the missing persons.

The relatives expressed their concerns, issues and demands to the President in detail during the meeting. The President expressing his views on allegations that some are being kept in government’s detention centers, said that there were no such secret detention centers for the present government and no one is held in custody
