Consumers will be able to buy rice at wholesale price through the Sathosa outlets islandwide, Sathosa Chairman T.M.K.B. Thennakoon said last week. According to Thennakoon, the decision to sell rice at wholesale price was taken with the intention of reducing the cost of living of the people. In addition, he had also reportedly said that the move would allow retail vendors to purchase rice without middlemen. Accordingly, a kilo of white kekulu will be sold at Rs. 64 by any Sathosa outlet while Nadu rice will be sold at Rs. 73, Samba rice at Rs. 80, and broken rice at Rs. 80. Thennakoon further said that steps would also be taken to sell other essential items such as sprats, canned fish, onion, and potato too at wholesale price.
