Moves are afoot to form a new political outfit in the North with the involvement of several stakeholders including politicians of the area in order to address the immediate and long term needs of the people. Accordingly, Leader of the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF), V. Anandasangaree is to hold discussions with academics, politicians, members of the civil society, and the public in order to push for a fresh political thinking in the North. Moves for a new political outfit has been mooted following accusations leveled against the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) of not prioritizing issues of the people and creating more divisions among Tamil political leadership.

Accordingly, a series of meetings have been planned in the near future in this regard. Speaking to the Nation, Anandasangaree pointed out that there was a need for a fresh political thinking in the North and highlighted the importance of political unity. Anandasangaree said the discussions would also include parties such as People’s Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) Eelam People’s Revolutionary Front (EPRLF), and Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO). “Even the LTTE agreed to unite with these groups in the later stages, But, now all these parties are divided,” he said. He pointed out that the current political environment in the North had sidelined the academics and experts. “We are working towards getting together people and various stakeholders including academics to form a new political outfit,” he said. He alleged that the current Tamil leadership had ignored the welfare of the people. “We have a situation where each politician wants to be a leader but no one wants to serve the people,” he said.
