Jaffna players debut in Negombo

The under 10 Inter School Tennis Tournament concluded recently in Negombo with the participation of over 35 schools displaying their prowess in tennis.

Schools in Kandy, Moratuwa, Wattala, Kandana and Jaffna were represented in the tournament and the significant feature of this tournament was the participation of school children from Jaffna schools for the first time.

Chief Guest, international hockey player, Director of the Rivira Media Corporation and Ex-Commissioner of Prisons Luxman Abeygunawardene hoisted the National Flag at the inaugural ceremony of the tournament.

Others participated at the gala ceremony were Secretary, Negombo Tennis Club, Rohan Fernando, and its Administrative Secretary, Prasad Silva.
Negombo Newstead Girls College shone in the event bagging Doubles, Green Ball and Orange Ball championships.

The competition was conducted under the following categories.
Red Ball events were for girls and boys under 7; Orange Ball tournaments were for under 8; and Green Ball category was for under 10 players.

At the conclusion of the tournament medals and certificates were awarded to the winners under the patronage of President of the Sri Lanka Tennis Federation Iqbal bin Issac.
The tournament was a good opportunity for the players to showcase their skills in the game.
