Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Assignments Tilak Marapana embarked on an official visit to India on September 8.

He is scheduled to be in India till Sunday, September 10, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement said.

Accordingly, this is his first overseas visit after assuming office as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Marapana will meet his Indian counterpart, Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj on September 9 for discussions on a range of bilateral issues aimed at further strengthening the India-Sri Lanka partnership. The Minister is scheduled to call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the same day.  Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prasad Kariyawasam, and Senior Director General of the South Asia and SAARC Division of the Ministry, M.A.K. Girihagama accompanied the Minister.
