Former Army Commander, Field Marshall Sarath Fonseka has revealed that he is in possession of information pertaining to the alleged involvement of his successor to the post of Army Commander, former Chief of Defence Staff, General Jagath Jayasuriya, in alleged war crimes.

Fonseka has further stated that he is willing to reveal the said information in the context of a legal process.

General Jayasuriya whose tenure as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Brazil came to an end recently has since flatly denied the allegations, which surfaced when several lawsuits were filed against him internationally over his alleged involvement in alleged war crimes. It has been reported that Executive Director of the Project for International Truth and Justice, Yasmin Sooka is behind the move against Jayasuriya.  Meanwhile, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Joint Opposition, the Jathika Hela Urumaya and the Sri Lankan Military have come to Jayasuriya’s rescue stating that the allegations were baseless.
