The film Rajavin Parvaiyile is a special film in the history of Tamil cinema. It may not be listed among the biggest blockbusters of the industry, but it featured two actors who would later become superstars.
The film directed by Janaki Sounder was released in 1995.
Actors Vijay and Ajith Kumar were a few films old when they acted in the film and were budding stars. Ajith in fact appeared in a guest role in the film while Vijay was the protagonist.
The two have never shared screen space after since then. They almost did another film together titled ‘Nerukku Ner’ in 1997. Ajith had in fact shot a few scenes for the film but then had to opt out due to schedule clashes with another film in which he was acting. Ajith was eventually replaced by newcomer Surya, who would also become a versatile actor later on.
Both have come a long way despite many setbacks and challenges. Both have a massive fanbase in India and abroad, and both share a good rapport in their personal lives.
The year 2017 is special for both these actors. Both complete 25 years in the industry.
Vijay debuted through the film ‘Naalaiya theerpu’ (Tomorrow’s verdict) directed by his father SA Chandrasekhar.
Before his debut as hero, Vijay had appeared as a child artiste in many of his father’s films in the 1980’s. Most of his initial films were directed by Chandrasekhar. In fact, five out of his first six films were directed by Chandrasekhar, the only exception being Rajavin Parvaiyile.
Over the years Vijay branched over towards other directors and tasted commercial success. His first blockbuster came in the form of ‘Poove Unakkaga’ in 1996 under the direction of Vikraman.
He later appeared in several critically acclaimed movies including ‘Kadhalukku Mariyadhai’, Thulladha Manamum Thullum’, ‘Kushi’, Friends, and ‘Priyamanavale’.
He did face some struggling phases in the late 1990’s, early 2000’s and then during 2009 and 2010 with many of his films failing at the box office.
However, since of late, he had been part of several blockbusters including ‘Kaavalan’, ‘Nanban’, ‘Velayudham’, ‘Thuppakki’, ‘Kaththi’, and ‘Theri’.
His upcoming film ‘Mersal’ is expected to hit the screens in October this year and the music by AR Rahman is already a hit in the charts.
Ajith on the other hand debuted in ‘Amaravathi’ directed by Selva. Though Amaravathi was his first direct Tamil film as hero, he had played a minuscule role in ‘En Kanavar en veedu’ in 1990 after which he acted in his first and only Telugu film ‘Prema Pusthakam’ in 1993.
Unlike Vijay, Ajith had no backing in the industry and had to find his own way to survive and stabilize himself in the industry.
Though he acted in many films in the 1990’s, his involvement in films dwindled as he shifted his attention towards racing during the early 2000’s.
He acted in a handful of films between 2002 and 2005 of which many did not fare well as expected due to many reasons. Ajith also underwent several surgeries on his spine due to accidents during racing which had an effect on his physique.
Post 2006, Ajith has been part of many hits and blockbusters including ‘Varalaru’, ‘Billa’, ‘Mankatha’, ‘Arrambam’, ‘Veeram’, ‘Ennai arindhaal’, and ‘Vedalam’.
His next film ‘Vivegam’ is expected to release by the latter part of this month. Songs composed by ‘Kolaveri’ fame Anirudh are already chart busters.
