No Government will survive politically if it fails to solve the national issue concerning the North and address the connected question of devolving power, President Maithripala Sirisena said.

In an exclusive interview given to The Nation’s sister paper, the Rivira Sunday Edition, speaking about the state of reconciliation in the country, Sirisena pointed out that political rhetoric provided no solutions whatsoever to the Northern problem.

In this regard, he further added that therefore there was no point in talking about the said matter if one was at present entertaining plans in relation to future elections and garnering votes for oneself.

He explained that thus instead of thinking about the problem of power, one had to think about the said issue with a level of utmost seriousness and in an in-depth manner.
