Deprived schoolchildren in Mulankavil Maha Vidyalayam and Nallur Maha Vidyalayam in Poonalari Divisional Secretariat experienced difficulties in attending schools due to transport problems.  Based on the request made by the Principals  and the Divisional Secretary, on the advice of the Northern and Eastern Provinces Development Committee which functions under the guidance of the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe , the Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation has provided 85 bicycles to the most deprived schools children to avoid drop outs and increase the school attendance.
“Further, the Ministry has also taken action to provide transport services for school children through Ministry of Transport and National Transport Commission,” Secretary, Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation, V.Sivagnanasothy said. “These initiatives are part of the reconciliation efforts and part of the Sustainable Development Goals to increase access to primary and secondary schools in the conflict affected poverty pockets.”

The event was graced by Leader of the Ilankai Thamiz Arasu Katchi (ITAK), Parliamentarian Mavai Senathirajah who is also the Chairman, Parliamentary Sectoral Oversight Committee. District Secretary, Kilinochchi, S. Arumainayagam, Divisional Secretary, Poonakari, Krishnendran, and Northern Provincial Officials also took part in the event.
