Citing the failure on the part of the Government on the basis of several performance indicators utilized in assessing the Government’s performance, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has called on President Maithripala Sirisena to take over the reins and consider the options available for moving forward by the end of the year.
Noting that the Government had failed to deliver on the assessment categories, politically, economically, socially and environmentally, SLFP MP Vidura Wickramanayaka said that come December when the agreement between the two coalition Parties forming the joint Government would expire, the SLFP should consider the fourfold options available for moving forward.
“Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe himself had allegations leveled against him,” he pointed out, adding that all sectors beginning from the clergy, doctors, teachers, lecturers, students and farmers were against the Government’s policies.
“If the SLFP is sensible or sane, as per Wickramanayaka, the SLFP would consider the following four options. The first being sitting in the Opposition and the second being to form a Government, which if the 95 MPs stood together could be formed as certain others MPs would join the Government at that juncture,” he said.
“The third being to appoint a Prime Minister from the SLFP, and the fourth being for Parliament to dissolve and go for a Parliamentary Election,” the MP added.
