A major disaster was averted aboard SriLankan Airlines UL 166 yesterday due to alert cabin crew members.

the crew had noticed smoke from one of the hand luggages and had swiftly taken action, avoiding major disasters.

The incident was reported on July 30 when the flight was on its way to Colombo from Kochi.

The incident had occurred shortly after the meal service on the flight. The crew had noticed noticed smoke in the aft area of the aircraft from an overhead luggage bin.

SriLankan has launched an investigation into the incident.
