Q : What is the United National Party’s position on the allegation levelled by the Commission inquiring into the bonds against Minister of Foreign Affairs Ravi Karunanayake?
A : For a Party to arrive at a decision, the facts in this regard must be proven. Therefore, just because someone makes a mere allegation, we as a Party are not ready to take decisions regarding such. That said, if some wrong has been committed, we will not hesitate to take a decision in that regard. We will never act to safeguard anyone who commits theft or fraud. Protecting thieves is not our Party’s policy. This is common to all in the Party.
Q : Are you all trying to sell the country, its oil to a foreign country, the seed farm in Mahailluppallama to Bangladesh and the port to China?
A : The country’s property was sold by the Rajapaksas (former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s family). They are the ones who outright sold the Shangri-La, the Port City and the Army camp in Galle Face. Today, they masquerade as patriots. It is during the era of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe that these were saved.
We will not sell anything. We will have to take certain decisions if we cannot do this or if the economy is weak or if our people are not doing it. What we are trying to do is to strengthen the economy and build the country. If such happens, the people will love our Government. These things that are happening are false propaganda to prevent such from being done. That is why the Joint Opposition, the Frontline Socialist Party, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna and trade unions are together engaging in acts of sabotage.
