The President recently conferred medals to sportspersons who had represented the country at the Olympics Games from 1948 onwards. During the awards ceremony at which the Minister of Sports along with all sportsmen and sportswomen who were living in Sri Lanka and had represented Sri Lanka at the Olympic Games were present, The President conferred a medal to Ranga Wimalawansa who represented the Lankan team in the four into 400 men’s relay at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Apart from Wimalawansa, a product of St. Peter’s College, Mahesh Perera, also a product of the same school, who represented the country in the 110 metres hurdles event, was also given a medal.
