Asela Gunaratna, the Sri Lankan allrounder will not return to the cricket team for the remainder of the Indian tour due to injury at the Galle first Test against India  .This was confirmed by the Sri Lanka Cricket on Thursday (27) .

Gunaratna,  31 years old middle-order batsman and useful bowler,  is big lost for Sri Lanka side .He made a  match winning knock of 80 not out to win the Zimbabwe Test match at the R. Premadasa Stadium.

At the first India Test match Gunaratna was injured during the India first innings .He was attempted to take the catch of Shikar Dhawan at the second slip off the bowling of Lahiru Kumara and got injured his left thumb With the result of this  drop catch, Dhawan made superb knock of 190 to build India for a massive first innings total of 600 all out .
Gunaratna was rushed to the Colombo private hospital for further treatments on Thursday .The medical report confirmed Gunaratne sustained in inter anticular communited fracture to his left thumb.He underwent reconstructure surgery at the Colombo private hospital last Thursday evening.

Meanwhile, medical experts have indicated Gunaratne will be out of action for a minimum of 6-8 weeks  and will return to full mobility under a strictly managed rehabilitation regime over the period .
