Sri Lankan left arm spinner Rangana Herath is to lead the team at the first test match against India scheduled to begin on July 26.

The decision was taken by officials after the Sri Lanka’s Test captain Dinesh Chandimal was admitted to a private hospital on Friday (21) due to a viral flu.

Chandimal was recently appointed captain of the Test team after Angelo Mathews stepped down from the position.

Herath had previously stood as Test captain for Sri Lanka during its tour to Zimbabwe in 2016 in the absence of Mathews who was ruled out of the tournament due to injury.
