Zimbabwe beat Sri Lanka in a nail biting curtain raiser of the bilateral series of both nations at the Galle International Stadium yesterday.

Sri Lanka scored a mammoth 316 for the loss of five wickets with half centuries from Kusal Mendis (86), Danushka Gunathilaka (60), and Upul Tharanga (79).

Mendis became the joint second fastest Sri Lankan to complete 1000 runs in ODIs after Roy Dias (27 matches).

However, Zimbabwe reached the target losing just four wickets thanks to 96-ball 112 runs by opener Solomon Mire. Mire was ably supported by Sean Williams (65).
Sikandar Raza (67) and Malcolm Waller (40) ensured that Zimbabwe crossed the line with 2.2 overs to spare.
