Newly appointed Minister of Finance and Mass Media, Mangala Samaraweera has recalled the vhicles and allowances of  15 Parliamentary backbenchers of the United National Party (UNP).

It was reported that some of them were appointed Monitoring MPs. The MPs are scheduled to meet Prime Minister and Party Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe shortly over the issue.
According to party sources, their monthly allowance of Rs 250,000 and a vehicle provided to them, had been recalled.

According to a senior spokesperson of the party, the MPs are allegedly facing severe issues owing to the facilities being taken away from them.
The said allowance and vehicles had previously been provided for by the Ministry of Finance. It is said to have been cancelled by  Samaraweera.

The spokesman of the Party informed that the said MPs were at present troubled over this new development, adding that the Parliamentarians in question had also been ordered to handover the said vehicles.

The said spokesman also noted that the particular group of MPs had previously lobbied at Wickremesinghe’s level and the level of senior party members who were Ministers, to have Karunanayake not removed from the Finance portfolio.
