Chinese President Xi Jinping last week pledged 2 billion Yuan (290 million dollars) development assistance to Sri Lanka for the period from 2018 to 2020.
The Chinese President made this pledge when he met Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in Beijin last week. The Chinese President had said that they will be assisting Sri Lanka’s reconciliation and economic development efforts while stressing on the importance of improving bilateral ties between the countries further.
This investment will be made in addition to a 400 million Yuan grant which will be given to Sri Lanka this year marking the 60th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relationships between the two nations which also coincides with the 65th anniversary of signing the Rubber-Rice Pact.
The agreement was signed in front of Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang and Sri Lankan Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe by the Chinese Deputy Trade Minister Fu Ziying and Malik Samarawickrama, Minister of International Trade.
