Sri Lanka power-lifting champion and Asian Bronze medallist Darin Weerasinghe was selected to captain the Sri Lanka team while Ransilu Jayatilleke was his deputy at the Asian Power Lifting Championship held from May 1 to 5 in Bandung, Indonesia. The Asian power-lifting meet had over 200 participants from India, Pakistan, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Japan and Chinese Taipei while the Sri Lanka team had 12 members including two female participants. Darin contested in the 120 kgs category marking the first time Sri Lanka fielded an athlete in the super heavyweight category. He currently has seven national records in power-lifting.
