President Maithripala Sirisena on Friday said that a central authority would be established in order to manage solid waste.

Accordingly, the President has instructed relevant officials to implement a programme to solve the issue of solid waste management.

The instruction was given during a meeting held at the Disaster Management Ministry to review the progress made in providing relief to the Meetotamulla victims.

In addition, the President also took part at an event organized to provide houses for the displaced persons, whose houses were completely destroyed.

President Sirisena had also directed his Secretary to monitor the progress with continuous discussions with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Ministers and other officials till solutions are found.

The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister, Ministers Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Susil Premajayantha, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Faiszer Mustapha, Sagala Rathnayake, Vajira Abeywardena, A. H. M. Fowzie, Chief Minister of Western Province Isura Dewapriya, Commanders of Tri forces, and the Inspector General of Police.
