Senior DIG Sumith Edirisinghe with President Maithripala Sirisena

Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Sumith Edirisinghe has been awarded with the Asian Hockey Federation Diploma of Merit and Aslam Sha Trophy in recognition in appreciation and honour of the yeoman services rendered to the sport of Hockey at National, Asian and International levels.

He has held the position of President in the National Hockey Federation of Sri Lanka since 2006. He committed and devoted in advancing and popularizing the sport Hockey in many parts of the country for over two decades. In the recent past, he introduced Hockey to Eastern Province, too. He is a well-reputed personality in Hockey administration and adjudicator in international arena. DIG Edirisinghe functioned as a member of the Appeal of Jury for Asian Games in 2006, 2010 and 2014, and the President of Appeal of Jury for SAARC Games in 2016. He has already been nominated to serve in panels of Adjudicators and Technical Officials for the Asian Games in 2018 and Olympic Games in 2020.
