Sri Lanka better known as the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean’ has gained popularity for foreign visitors with the Cultural Triangle, Hill Country and the Wild Life Parks as added attractions. From time to time, various organizations have been making efforts to change this image of Sri Lanka in order to attract tourists who possess different interests.

We firmly believe that by providing opportunities for such activities, Sri Lanka could be positioned as a destination for recreational activities by using sporting events as an effective tool. While travelling around the world for tourism promotional purposes, we have seen that cycling is one of the most popular activities which are practiced by a vast majority. Due to the rigorous nature of mountain biking, there are people who are not desirous of taking part in such events and are very keen on using Racing Bicycles.

In our endeavour to introduce a new event which has a mass volume of followers, we have planned to hold a Cycling Event in which the professionals who are keen on Racing Cycling could take part and in the process enjoy the beauty of Sri Lanka, experience the challenging terrain and get to know the lesser known areas of Sri Lanka in a “Coast to Coast” Exercise spanning from the East to the West. The race will be held from April 7-9 and will flag off from Passikudah. Participants will also have starts in Mahiyangana and Kandy before winding up at Negombo on the final day.

Main objectives of the event is to boost further the image of Sri Lanka as a safe and secure tourist destination where people live in harmony, promote Sri Lanka as an ideal destination for recreational activities including Cycling which is very popular in European as well as in Asian countries. Other objective- within the next few years- is to receive recognition and registration for this Event with the Union Cycliste  Internationale as an Annual Cycling Event in Sri Lanka with the blessings of Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC)and to unearth the talent of the Sri Lankans by providing an opportunity to ride alongside International Riders.

The cycle race is organized by leading travel agency Lanka Sportreizen which specializes in nature based activities.
The race will commence from the Marina Hotel in the National Holiday Resort in Passikudah and will run through Mahiyangana and Kandy to the City of Negombo.

The Event will be open to All National & Club Teams, and it is expected to limit the participation to 100 out of which a little over 50 % will be meant for Foreign Riders
