SLC President Thilanga Sumathipala (Centre) briefs the media about the plans to host Nidahas Trophy in 2018

Sri Lanka will host India and Bangladesh in a T20 tri-nation championship to commemorate the island’s 70th Independence anniversary next year.

Tournament dates have not been finalized but it is likely that the matches will be worked off between March 15 and 31, 2018.
The prize on offer is the Nidahas Trophy along with money.
“We look forward to playing the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka next year as it not only coincides with the 70th year of Independence of our nation but the 70th anniversary of Sri Lanka Cricket,” said President of Sri Lanka Cricket Thilanga Sumathipala. “As our nations gained Independence within a short span of each other in our contemporary history, this will no doubt be a significant moment of similar sentimental value for us to mark with pomp and pageantry as it rightfully warrants”.

Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement that the complete itinerary with venues will be released closer to the date once all formal procedures are complete.

Pakistan and India participated in a similar series to mark Sri Lanka’s 50 years of Independence in 1998.
