Frenchmen Jan Valskam is a great lover of rugby and promotes the game from a grassroots level. Jan was happy that his favourite club Havelock SC did well in the domestic season which just concluded. He said he was happy to see Havies finish second in the league and knockout tournaments. Havies were never able to stop the juggernaut from Nittawela, Kandy SC. The Park Club rugby team was felicitated for their good performance recently during an eventful evening at the club house.

Jan has a background which is very impressive. He was one time consultant and assistant coach of the Sri Lanka Army Rugby Team in 1979, during which year the soldiers pocketed the Knockout trophy, beating the league champions Police SC in the semi-finals. Then, he was the man who presented a shield to the winners of the Havelock SC vs. Army SC game played in memory of Y.  Pakstun.  Every year during rugby season, he is here. He was also a rugby player of repute having represented clubs in France.
