The police said that the attack on the CEO of the South Asian Institute of Medicine and Technology (SAITM), Dr. Sameera Senaratne was staged.
A resident from Embilipitiya was arrested by police over the shooting incident which targeted at SAITM’s Chief Executive Officer Dr. Sameera Senaratne. Police has also found a pistol, a revolver and few live bullets in his possession along with a motor-bike which are suspected to be used at the shooting at Malambe on February 6.
The suspect has already been remanded till March 13 by the Kaduwela Magistrate when he was produced before courts on Monday.
Meanwhile, police have also questioned an STF officer who is already serving a remand prison term for another case. Police further said that initial investigations reveal that the shooting incident was staged. Investigation teams have also received information about a provincial council member and a driver who had close connections with Dr. Senaratne. “However, the duo have fled the area,” the police said.
