Seeing your prince charming across a crowded room and falling in love at first sight is a Hollywood cliché that’s barely practical and almost unlikely to happen nowadays given how busy everybody is – juggling multiple jobs, studying and running businesses on the side and barely even having time to sit down and eat let alone socialize.
Capitalizing on how busy boys and girls are, mobile application developers came to the fore in the last few years with their dating apps like Tinder which brought people together and helped people connect, meet and fall in love or go their separate ways after a date or two.
Nirja Mahenthiran, the Sri Lankan-American creator of Love Digits says that she too has had simillar experiences in her love life.
“I have been there. We all have been there. You go on a date with someone you meet through an app and sometimes you end up just awkwardly staring at each other the entire time because you have absolutely no common interests or barely anything to talk about.
“This is when I thought it’d be helpful if there was some way – any way—to know what a person is like and how compatible you are with a date prior to meeting them,” she said.
How most of these apps usually work is by using an algorithm that shows ‘matches’ based on location.
In the case of Tinder, it gives the choice of either swiping right or left on a person and if both parties swipe right, it’s considered a match. This allows the two users who have matched to start chatting with each other.
In most existing apps however, whether or not you decide to pursue a match depends on their physical appearance. On Tinder, you will not know what a person is like – their mannerisms, preferences or the personality –unless you get talking to him or her. Even then, people are sometimes different in person than they sound like online or through an app.
Love Digits is an app that brings both dating and gaming services to users. Ancient astrology brings new insight to modern dating with this app which works on a swipe-based platform to find compatible matches for users. As the first love-compatibility tool in the market to combine several schools of astrology on one platform, Love Digits is for those looking to find the perfect match with a touch of tradition.
Speaking about the app, Mahenthiran said that what they have tried to do with Love Digits was to use several forms of Indian and Chinese astrology together to devise a very modern, very user-friendly dating compatibility tool.
Singles trying to find the right match can use this to discern who they are compatible with and make informed decisions when it comes to choosing a partner.
The algorithm for this app has been written by famed astrologer Prasannan who was a lead astrologer with Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (better known as Amma, the hugging saint) in India.
“The app combines Vedic astrology, Vedic numerology and Chinese astrology to help test compatibility for love and marriage. By entering their birth dates, times and places, two people can quickly check their compatibility across seven different Indian and Chinese astrology measures using a five-star rating system,” she said.
This app which was launched in Sri Lanka last month has been getting an overwhelming reaction from its users, Mahenthiran said. Given that astrology is still an integral aspect that comes to play in relation to marriage matters, it is apt to dub this an app that parents would approve of and will put match-makers out of business in time to come.
Love Digits is available on Google Play and App store.
