President Maithripala Sirisena on February 9 vested a new village built in Nuwara Eliya with the upcountry plantation community. The new village, Hutvilpura, was built in Hutvil Estate in Agarapathana, Nuwara Eliya.

The village consisting of 150 new houses, was built under the concept of ‘New Village for Upcountry – Our Own Land and Our Own House’ which was implemented to build single houses for the plantation workers as replacements to the existing line rooms.

The event was held at the Talawakelle grounds under the patronage of the President.
The President assured that the Government was committed to solve issues of the estate sector community while strengthening their economic standards.

Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Minister of Hill Country New Villages, Infrastructure and Community Development Palani Digambaram, Ministers Mano Ganesan, M.H.M. Haleem, Faizer Mustafa, Arjuna Ranatunga, State Minister, V. S. Radhakrishnan, and MPs of the district and public officials participated in the event.
