Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who was in Jaipur for the shooting of his period drama Padmavati, was attacked by activists of Shree Rajput Karni Sena last week. The hooligans halted the shoot by damaging the set at Jaigarh Fort, alleging that the director was ‘distorting facts’ in the movie by having a romantic dream sequence between Rani Padmavati (to be played by Deepika Padukone) and Muslim conqueror Alauddin Khilji (to be played by Ranveer Singh).
Film’s primary cast – Deepika, Ranveer and Shahid Kapoor also took to twitter to express their displeasure over the entire matter. The latest to enter the brigade is famous lyricist Javed Akhtar. He pointed out how the allegations on Bhansali are wrong as Padmavati is a fictional character. Although Bhansali productions is yet to give an official statement on this but they have issued a clarification saying, “We don’t want to hurt any sentiments, would appreciate if all social orgs support us in making this film.” Not to mention, in a tweet, Giriraj Singh of Rajput Sabha said, “They (Bhansali Prod.) have agreed there will be no intimate scene between Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji in any form. Demand to form a screening committee before the release of the movie is still to be fulfilled.”
