The split among the leftist parties is likely to widen further after leader of the Frontline Socialist Party (FLSP) Kumar Gunaratnam was granted Sri Lankan citizenship, political analysts said.
He was granted citizenship effective from February 1 following an application made by him to grant Sri Lankan citizenship.
However, he has been instructed to cancel his Australian citizenship within three months.

Gunaratnam was arrested in November 2015 for violating Immigration and Emigration laws after having arrived in the country on tourist visa. He was released on December 2 last year after completing his one-year prison sentence.
