Sri Lanka’s inflation, as measured by the change in the Colombo Consumers’ Price Index, rose to 4.2
percent in December 2016 from 4.1 percent in the previous month, the Department of Census and Statistics indicated.
The National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) rose 1.2 percent to 118 index points in December 2016, an increase of 1.4 index points compared to November. The NCPI Core inflation, which reflects the underlying inflation in the economy, decreased marginally to 6.7 per cent in December 2016 from 6.8 per cent in November 2016.
The annual average NCPI Core inflation increased slightly to 5.9 per cent in December 2016 from 5.8 per cent in November 2016.
