In a bid to reduce the increasing congestion at the Bandaranaike Airport and ease boarding process due to revised check in times, authorities have increased passenger check-in counters and have introduced a coding system to track the baggage.
Spokesperson for SriLankan Airlines, which handles operations at the airport, Deepal Perera told The Weekend Nation that check-in counters had been increased to 67 and added the airport had made arrangements to accommodate the passengers despite renovation works at the runway.
He said that the increase in checkin counters had reduced passenger congestion to a great extent. In addition ,the BIA has also introduced a coding system where the passenger could track his baggage. “The passenger could take a printout of the code when he or she is checking in online. He or she could then produce the code to the baggage counter when collecting it,” he said.
