The Elections Commission urged the government for the introduction of political science in the school curriculum to eradicate political apathy among the country’s youth.
At present political science is taught only at the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level examination and as citizens’ education.

Secretary of the Commission, H.M.T.D. Herath said that the Commission and the Elections Secretariat were working along with the Ministry of Education in supporting the students’ parliament programme by giving lectures on subjects such as the franchise and sovereignty for those in classes from Grade Eight to 13 in selected schools, simultaneous to the conduct of the programme by the Ministry.
