Former Fisheries Deputy Minister Sarath Kumara Gunaratne, who was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on charges of misappropriating Rs.12 million belonging to the Fisheries Harbour Corporation, Negombo, was further remanded till January 13 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lal Bandara this morning.

The CID had named six individuals including Gunaratne as the suspects following the instructions of the Attorney General. However, the other suspects; former chairman of Ceylon Fisheries Harbour Corporation (CFHC) Upali Liyanage, CFHC General Manager Piyal Abeysekara, Deputy General Manager Chandana Palpita and Lakmuni Munidasa have been released on bail.
