In 2013, officials of the FFSL and Kandy Association Football League played a big show over here at Dangolla in Kandy; they laid the foundation stone saying an International football stadium will come out at the pint- sized Municipal Play Ground. Officials of the FFSL Ranjith Rodrigo and Niel Ubayasiri together with K Dissanayake, S Wijesinghe, T Jayasinghe, G Silva and S Mediwake from Kandy were seen at the foundation-laying ceremony. It was said that the then Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage had allocated Rs.5 million for the project. It was announced in the media by the people concerned that it is going to be a stadium with all facilities, like a pavilion that will have modern dressing rooms for the players and facilities for the media, too. Three and half years have gone by but no work started.
