Chairman of Sri Lanka People’s Front, Prof GL Peiris alleged that the reason for postponing local government election was the government’s fear that they will lose badly.

Addressing a press conference yesterday he also stated that the Chairman of the Delimitation Committee has alleged that there is interference to carrying out his duty and it is the two main political parties that attempt to delay the process.

He said that this allegation by the Chairman of the Delimitation Committee has been corroborated by the fact that the report handed over on Monday had only three signatures, and the two missing signatures belonged to representatives of United National Party and Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

Prof. Peiris further opined that the missing signature is used as reason for further delay in accepting the report. He went on to say that this indicates the government fears public of opinion
