Last Sunday, Kandy Sport Club defeated unbeaten   Havelock Sports Club XV in their inter-club first round last game at  Nittawela . In this game, Kandy Sports Club got off to a good start and never let up, beating Havelock Sports Club by 39-30. This was the first defeat of the Park Club.

Both teams played out entertaining rugby.  Everyone was pleased with how the winners finished the match as they showed patience and discipline.

In this game, Kandy SC’s threes were outstanding. They got to the ball fast and tacked well.  Their bustling display upset the Havies.   The visitors could not get the ball, however, they tried. The gutty Kandy Sports club “eight” did everything in the loose play and were winning the ball often.

Skipper Roshan Weerarthne played an intelligent game and led the side well.  Both teams have some dynamic runners. This was Kandy SC’s   best performance this season.

The winners were brave in defence and brilliant in attack. After a nervy opening from both sides, the home team took the lead   22 points to 13   at half time.

It was the same story after the break. Kandy SC took control and made ruthless display of running to finish as winners. It’s great to see the Kandy’s guys playing well. Meanwhile, table leaders were left to reflect on another tough result. Havelock SC failed to play the game the way they played in the last six games.  Probably, Kandy SC is the well-balanced team in the tournament.

Kandy SC’s Trustee, Malik Samarawickrema congratulated the side on their remarkable win.
