A man has been left with life-changing tumours after being cut during a routine visit to a barber. Keith Crowell developed keloids 12 years ago after a barber cut him on both sides of neck. The nicks didn’t heal but mounds of skin grew on his face and neck instead.
Almost 40 pounds of flesh has since been removed during two surgeries but the growths keep returning. He has difficulty sleeping, swallowing and hearing properly, it has been reported.
“It can be devastating,” Crowell told KFSM News. “Sometimes I feel real bad. I want to be like, a normal person.” He has now found a specialist in New York who says he has a 96 per cent chance to resolve the problem. “I love those odds,” Crowell said. “I use baby oil to minimize the discomfort. I clean it every night with peroxide.”
However, his insurance has baulked at covering the costs, claiming it was cosmetic surgery. He has set up a crowd-funding page at Gofundme.com to help him raise money for the trip and care. He has collected £22,000 so far of his $50,000 target.
