McQueen dead?
A new trailer for a sequel to the old favourite animated movie ‘Cars’ dropped and while ‘Cars 2’ was mostly panned by critics and audiences alike, many began to talk about the trailer because of its gritty tone.

1Animated films are known for being bright and cheerful and highly sentimental. Pixar in particular is known for its tear jerkers Toy Story and its subsequent follow-ups as well as Finding Nemo 1 and 2. The Cars 3 trailer however captured attention for looking darker and more intense than your average animated movie.

It starts in the middle of a race and the tone is immediately more greyed out than vibrant and we follow the hero Lightning McQueen as he crashes leaving the audience in suspense. The trailer started trending on Twitter with many asking why it was comparatively so dark. It will be interesting to see if Pixar can pick up the Cars series with its latest film.

2Sri Lanka, Windies, Zimbabwe tri series
Sri Lanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe played a tri series and Sri Lanka came out on top. Zimbabwe previously made headlines when they beat West Indies to earn their chance to battle Sri Lanka in a final and they were a worthy opponent but the Lankans won by six wickets.

After a disappointing defeat to Australia in the ODi series, Sri Lanka will be happy to have got a series win under their belts. Sri Lanka now go on to play South Africa, a team that has themselves just beaten Australia in a Test series as Sri Lanka did. While South Africa may seem to have the home advantage, the young Lankan team is scrappy and will surely put up a fight, making it an interesting series to look forward to.

3A Head Full Of Dreams
Internationally renowned band Coldplay announced a show in Singapore and many in Asia – including Sri Lanka and there is a scramble to get tickets to see the famous group. The tour, A Head Full Of Dreams promoting their latest album had just one stop in Singapore and lots of eager ticket buyers-to-be were disappointed when they sold out very quickly. But due to their popularity, two more dates were added and some were able to get their hands on tickets before they were sold out again. The band, previously best known for mellow songs such as ‘Yellow’ and ‘The Scientist’ have taken on a more and more experimental sound and the concert should be an amazing experience in Asia.

Moana made waves both at the box office and with audiences as the latest Disney Princess film making the second highest Thanksgiving debut, just behind Disney’s previous hit Frozen. The movie features newcomer Auli’i Cravalho in the title role, joined by The Rock Dwayne Johnson as Maui. Moana herself is being praised for having a more average body than previous princesses and breaking the mould while still being charming and a good role model. The film has earned a 93 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes so far and is sure to go down as another Disney classic that will have kids belting out its songs in no time.
