Members of the Champion Zahira College team celebrate with the trophy

Football fans in Jaffna turned up in large numbers to witness the finals of the Kotmale under-19 Schools Football Championship at the Duraiappah Stadium on November 5.
Zahira College Colombo annexed the trophy after beating St. Patrick’s College Jaffna 3-nil in the final under lights. This is the second time that Zahira won this tournament, conducted by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka.

M. Shaffran scored the first goal for Zahira College in the 35th minute which helped the Maradana school take a 1-nil lead at half time.

The other two goals were scored by M. Saheel in the 51st and 80th minutes respectively.
Saheel was adjudged as the man of the match while Kaleel Rahman also of Zahira was named as the best goal keeper.

St. Henry’s win
St. Henry’s, last year’s champions, finished as second runners-up after defeating Joseph Vaz College 3-0 in one semi-final played earlier on.

Goals were scored by S. Rubanraj in the 22nd minute, G. Antonyraj in the 54th minute and N.A. Ramesh, who found the net in the 79th minute.
